The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has donated hundreds of sanitary pads to female students of Ghana Senior High School (GHANASCO) in Tamale as part of efforts to improve menstrual hygiene management and support girls’ education.
The intervention forms part of the Authority’s corporate social responsibility initiatives aimed at promoting menstrual health awareness and ensuring that young girls can manage their menstrual periods with dignity, confidence, and comfort while pursuing their education.
Speaking during the donation ceremony, officials of the NPA said the initiative seeks to address challenges many female students face in accessing sanitary products, which often affect their attendance, concentration, and overall academic performance. They noted that providing menstrual hygiene materials is crucial in empowering girls to remain focused on their studies and achieve their full potential.

Beyond the donation, the NPA team also engaged the students in an educational session on menstrual health and hygiene. The sensitization exercise highlighted the importance of maintaining proper hygiene during menstruation, the correct use and disposal of sanitary pads, and the need for girls to prioritize their health and well-being.
The leader of the delegation emphasized that menstrual health should not be a barrier to education and encouraged the students to take advantage of the knowledge shared to adopt healthy menstrual hygiene practices.
Meanwhile, some beneficiaries who spoke to Zaa News expressed appreciation to the National Petroleum Authority for the timely intervention. According to them, the donation would go a long way in reducing the financial burden on their parents and guardians while helping them maintain proper menstrual hygiene.
The students further described the gesture as a motivation to remain committed to their education, stating that access to sanitary products is essential in ensuring that girls stay in school and participate fully in academic activities without interruption.
The donation underscores the growing commitment of institutions and corporate organizations to supporting menstrual health initiatives and creating an enabling environment for girls to thrive academically and socially.
