The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of the Chief of Yidani, Naa Ntimla Nwenisim, and his son, Ntimla Bilaga.

The suspects have been identified as 25-year-old Majejiba Magne and 34-year-old Haruna Nlegle.

According to the Police, the two suspects were arrested following intelligence that they were travelling from Dombine in the Gushegu District towards Chereponi.

The Chereponi District Police Command intercepted and arrested the suspects on August 26, 2026. They were subsequently transferred to the Yendi Divisional Command and have since been placed in police custody to assist with investigations.

The suspects are believed to have links to the August 14 attack at Yidani, during which the chief and his son were shot dead at their residence.

Police investigations indicate that three unidentified armed men stormed the chief’s residence at about 3:00 a.m. and demanded to be directed to the chief’s room.

When their demand was refused, the assailants allegedly fired a shot into the roof of a nearby room before forcing their way into the chief’s room, where they shot the chief and his son.

Five empty BB cartridges were recovered from the scene and secured as exhibits as part of the ongoing investigation.

A post-mortem examination conducted at the Tamale Teaching Hospital on August 17 revealed that the two victims suffered multiple injuries consistent with a shotgun assault. The examination concluded that they died from severe injuries and haemorrhagic shock.

Following the incident, the Inspector-General of Police deployed a special operations team from the National Police Headquarters, with support from other security agencies, to intensify patrols and security operations in Yidani and neighbouring communities.

The Northern Regional Security Council, led by the Regional Minister, also visited the community to engage the bereaved family and residents and reassure them of the commitment of the security agencies to bringing the perpetrators to justice.

The Police say investigations are ongoing, with all available leads being pursued to identify and arrest other persons who may have participated in the murders.

The Northern Regional Police Command has appealed to residents of Yidani, Dombine, Gushegu, Chereponi and surrounding communities to provide credible information that could assist in the investigation.

The Command assured residents and potential informants that information provided would be treated with strict confidentiality.

The Police have also urged the bereaved family, youth and residents to remain calm and refrain from acts of reprisal or vigilantism.

The Command warned that anyone found culpable in the murders or any related acts of violence would be dealt with according to law.
