The Mayor of Tamale, Hon. Abubakari Adam Takoro, has called on members of the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) to uphold the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, impartiality and confidentiality in the discharge of their duties.
According to information published by the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (Northern RCC) on its official Facebook page, Hon. Takoro made the call on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, when he delivered a welcome address on behalf of the Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Ali Adolf John, at the Second Quadrennial Delegates Conference of JUSAG held at the University for Development Studies (UDS) Conference Hall in Tamale.
The conference, which brought together the Chief Justice of Ghana, His Lordship Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, Chief of Staff Hon. Julius Debrah, judicial officers, management of the Judicial Service, JUSAG executives and delegates from across the country, also attracted representatives of organised labour, the media and other stakeholders.
Welcoming participants to Tamale, Hon. Takoro expressed delight that the Northern Region had been selected to host the important national gathering, describing the conference as an opportunity for reflection, constructive engagement and the advancement of the Judicial Service.
According to the Mayor, the presence of the Chief Justice and Chief of Staff underscored the importance attached to the welfare, professionalism and effectiveness of staff of the Judicial Service, while also representing an honour to the people of the Northern Region.
Turning to the role of the Judiciary, Hon. Takoro noted that it remains a cornerstone of Ghana’s constitutional democracy, particularly in interpreting and enforcing the laws of the country, protecting fundamental rights and freedoms, and providing avenues for the peaceful resolution of disputes.
Beyond the courtroom, he stressed that effective justice delivery does not rest solely on judges and magistrates, but depends significantly on the collective efforts of the numerous professionals and support staff who keep the wheels of the justice system turning.
He specifically acknowledged the contributions of court administrators, registrars, interpreters, clerical officers, stenographers, accountants, bailiffs, process servers, drivers, security personnel, information technology officers and other personnel whose daily work contributes to the smooth administration of justice.
Against this background, the Mayor urged JUSAG delegates to use the conference for honest reflection, constructive engagement and responsible decision-making, while pursuing staff welfare and professional interests alongside the broader objective of strengthening the Judicial Service.
Hon. Takoro further emphasised that the Judicial Service handles matters that directly affect the lives, liberty, property and dignity of citizens, making integrity and professionalism indispensable qualities for everyone working within the institution.
He cautioned, however, that acts of dishonesty, misconduct or abuse of office by individual staff members could erode public confidence and tarnish the reputation of an institution whose credibility has been built over many years.
For that reason, he called on every member of the Judicial Service, irrespective of rank or position, to uphold impartiality, confidentiality, professionalism and respect for the law, noting that the conduct of an individual can influence how the public perceives the institution as a whole.
On institutional development, the Mayor highlighted the need for strong, accountable and responsive public institutions capable of meeting the needs of citizens and contributing meaningfully to Ghana’s democratic development.
He therefore encouraged JUSAG members to use the conference to engage constructively on issues relating to staff welfare, professional development, institutional effectiveness and their broader contribution to justice delivery.
In conclusion, Hon. Takoro expressed confidence that the deliberations would strengthen collaboration among JUSAG, Judicial Service management, organised labour and other stakeholders, while contributing to a more efficient, professional and citizen-centred justice delivery system.
He also reiterated the Northern Region’s pride in hosting the conference, inviting participants to take advantage of their stay in Tamale to experience the warmth, hospitality and rich cultural heritage of Northern Ghana.
