Bui Power Authority has begun compensating communities and farmers within its solar farm enclave in the Yendi Municipality. The compensation exercise targets farmers whose lands and economic trees lie along the authority’s transmission line route.

The payments were based on valuations conducted by the Land Valuation Division of the Lands Commission to ensure that all affected individuals receive fair and approved rates.

According to the Authority, the initiative is part of efforts to uphold transparency and fairness in addressing the impact of the project on livelihoods.

Farmers with economic trees affected by the Bui Power Authority’s solar project in the Yendi Municipality are expected to receive appropriate compensation.

The Authority has already made payments to several affected individuals as part of the ongoing compensation process.

During a cheque presentation ceremony at Galgu community in Yendi, Bui power officials explained the compensation process and encouraged anyone with concerns to follow the appropriate channels for redress.

The Director of Natural Resources at Bui Power Authority, Wumbila Salifu, told the media that all compensations are strictly based on assessments and rates approved by the Lands Commission.

Some property owners received over forty-eight thousand Ghana cedis (GHC 480,000) Ghana cedis to rebuild their houses. While some expressed dissatisfaction with the amounts, they said they would accept the payments despite the shortfall in their expectations.

The Chief of Galgu expressed disappointment over the Authority’s failure to employ locals in the first phase of the project.

While he commended Bui Power Authority for bringing development to the community, he warned that continued neglect of local manpower could affect the project’s success.
