Newly Enskinned Sub-Chief Escapes Death After Armed Robbery Ambush in Singa-Kuldaani road; three motor bikes burned

A newly enskinned sub-chief in the Singa Traditional Area has narrowly escaped death after his entourage were ambushed by armed robbers while returning home from his enskinment ceremony.

The sub-chief, Sing-Yapalisi Naa, was being escorted from the Sing-Lana Palace to the Yapalisi community through a route while his entourage unknowingly used a route the robbers were carrying out their criminal activities.

According to eyewitnesses, the assailants, numbering about five, ambushed the convoy along the Singa–Kuldaani road.

During the attack, three motorbikes belonging to members of the chief’s family and sympathizers were set ablaze by the robbers. The victims were reportedly subjected to severe torture, with their mobile phones seized and sums of money taken from them.

Among the victims was the Assembly Member for the Sing Electoral Area, Mohammed Suale.  He disclosed that the armed robbers fired gunshots into the air before fleeing the scene with one of the victims’ motorbikes.

 The incident, which occurred at about 2pm on January 12, 2026, has heightened fear among residents, as armed robbery attacks along the Singa–Kuldaani road have become frequent.

 According to the Assembly Member, the situation is worsened by the poor nature of the road and persistent telecommunication network challenges in the area. The case has since been reported to the Kumbungu District Police for investigation.

Meanwhile, residents of Singa and surrounding communities are appealing to the Northern Regional Police Command to intensify security patrols along the stretch to curb the rising incidents of armed robbery and ensure the safety of motorists and commuters.

Assembly Member for the Sing Electoral Area, Mohammed Suale, shared his experience with Zaa News and called for urgent security intervention to protect lives and property.
