Yara Ghana has launched a FarmerWeather App known as FarmGo. With the FarmWeather APP, farmers can get ahead of the weather by getting free and accurate forecasts. It gives daily, weekly and hourly forecasts to enable farmers plan their farm activities, anywhere they are.
The App can be downloaded and used on a phone at the comfort of the farmer. It is an easy-to-use and convenient smart weather app developed for small landowner farmers. This was announced by the West African Regional Director of Yara Ghana, Danquah Addo-Yobo at the 11th Agribusiness conference and exhibition ceremony in Tamale.
Mr Danquah Addo indicates that agric in Ghana is substantially rainfall, and timing is everything, hence the need for the APP. He said the APP that was launched this year initially targeted 2, 500 farmers, but interestingly, about ten thousand farmers have downloaded the APP and YARA is looking forward to achieving the 100, 000 target in future.
‘’This year we have launched a farmWeather App that is called FarmGo. This is an APP you can download on your phone to give you accurate weather forecast, and we know agric in Ghana is substantially rainfall, and timing is everything,so the farmWeather APP gives very accurate forecast that can help farmers’’, he said.
This Mr. Danquah Addo indicates is encouraging and Yara will continue to commit itself to the agric sector. The Director also revealed that a four year project dubbed; Sustainable Soya bean production in northern Ghana has also been launched as part of their commitment to farmers in northern Ghana. The project is targeted at 100, 000 soya farmers with a value chain approach.
It will address the challenges farmers in the sector are often confronted with including poor agronomic practices which have negatively impacted on yields. Mr Danquah Addo however encouraged soya processors and farmers to take advantage of the project. Yara has showed itself as a strong partner of the Annual pre-harvest conference. It has been championing initiatives that have proven important to the growth and development of agriculture in Ghana.
