The Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) has cautioned independent broadcasters in the country to be circumspect in their reportage of the unfortunate attack on the Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Adams Mahama, which led to his untimely death.
In a statement issued by the Executive Council of the Association ahead of its interaction with broadcasters in the three Northern Regions, it condemned the cowardly act.
It also asked members to be mindful of the simmering tensions surrounding the case and not allow their platforms to be used to further any parochial political or tribal interest.
“Let us be mindful of the potential security threat that this attack poses in the region and not provide our platforms for any self -serving group to exploit it, the statement signed by Kwasi Owusu Asare Executive Secretary and copied to Zaa News cautioned.
It continue, we have our Code of Conduct on political reportage as a guide”, the statement added.
It is also calling on the security services, especially the Ghana Police Service, to act swiftly to bring the perpetrators to book.
