About one hundred National Democratic Congress (NDC) Youth in the Tamale South Constituency have defected to the Conventions People’s party.
The youth who were mainly members of the Coalition for Socialist Governance announced their defection at a news conference in Tamale.
According to the youth, their defection was informed by unfulfilled promises of the NDC and said the party had failed in its social contract with the people of the northern region.
The secretary of the youth, Abdul-Mumin Sofo who addressed the conference described the NDC government three year’s records as full of broken promises.
He said the NDC had failed in finding the killers of the Yaa Na contrary to their election manifesto that they would arrest and prosecute the killers.
He said the NDC functionaries have turned to property grabbing social democrats instead of working to promote the interest of the ordinary Ghanaian.
Mr. Sofo said the NDC is now behaving like the opposition New Patriotic Party that tagged itself as property owning but turned to property grabbing, leading to their defeat in 2008.
He said their decision to join the CPP was to ensure that it came to power to continue its good works started by Dr. kwame Nkrumah Ghana’s first President. Mr Sofo also described the current state of the Savanna Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) as being in limbo.
He said the people of the north are yet to locate the headquarters of SADA and challenged government to stop giving flimsy budgetary allocations. Some regional executives of CPP led by its secretary, Eddisa Mumuni presented CPP membership identification cards to the youth.
