Residents in the Zabzugu District are appealing to the Ghana Private Transport Union, especially the Tipper Trucks Union in the northern region to caution its members plying on the Yendi -Zabzugu road or incurred their wrath.
The residents are also appealing to the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana police to intervene to save innocent lives being lost as a result of careless driving.
Tipper truck drivers according to the residents disregard traffic regulations leading to loss of innocent lives on the road.
Speaking to Zaa News, the Assemblyman for Zabzugu South Electoral Area, Abdulai Ahmed Shiraz said, about four people have been killed on the road within this week.
He said several complaints to the police about the attitude of the drivers on the road have not yielded positive result.
He warned that they would be compelled to take action against the drivers if nothing is done about it.
The assemblyman for Tuvugu Electoral Area Mashud Atobge also appealed to the highway authorities to construct speed rumps on the road to help reduce the rate of accidents in the area.
Mr. Mashud said though authorities at the Assembly claimed the department of feeder roads was notified on the problem, nothing is being done about it.
Meanwhile, a Tipper truck on Friday 18 May 2012 ran into a motor bike rider at the precinct of the Tamale Teaching Hospital killing him instantly.
An eye witness at the scene told Zaa News that he suspects the truck's breaks failed; resulting in the accident. When contacted, the Northern Regional Commander of Motor Traffic and Transport Unit of the Ghana Police Service, Godwin Cashman Blewushie tells Zaa News that, his outfit would soon conduct investigations into the operations of the Tipper trucks in the region.
