Regional Advisory Information and Network System (RAINS), a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) operating in the northern region has reiterated its commitment to improving livelihood of the rural people in its operational areas.
RAINS which is one of the gender based NGO's, further affirms its continued commitment to girls of school going age to get the necessary support for them to clamp to the higher level in their educational endeavors. RAINS over the past two decades has been supporting rural farmers especially women with tractors and training on the best farming practices.
It has also provided grinding mills, schools, uniforms and learning materials to basic school pupils in its operational districts of the northern region.
RAINS as part of its effort to improving food production is currently implementing a partnership project dubbed; “Change’’, a climate change Adaptation in Northern Ghana in the Savelugu-Nanton Municipality.
The CHANGE project seeks to address the urgent need for women and men smallholder farmers in northern Ghana to understand the causes and effects of climate variability and climate change and to embrace innovative adaptive measures to ensure sustainable household food security and livelihoods.
Speaking at the launch of RAINS 20TH anniversary celebration in Tamale, a member of the RAINS board of directors, Dr Sulemana Abdulai said, RAINS will liaise with traditional rulers in the communities to help them in their activities. Dr Sulemana hinted that, RAINS intends on using sporting activities to create awareness of HIV/AIDS and other diseases in the communities.
The Northern Regional Minister, Bede Ziedeng commended RAINS for their tremendous work in the region over the two decades and urged other NGOs to emulate RAINS exemplary role to develop the rural people.
Mr Ziedeng further commended RAINS for playing key role in the establishment of Tamale Girls Senior High School formerly Pag-Naa and the Borimagn rural bank in Savulugu.
