The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, has announced a series of measures aimed at strengthening local governance and improving service delivery across Ghana. Speaking during the Northern Region leg of the “Resetting Ghana” tour, the Minister outlined key interventions by the John Dramani Mahama administration.
Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim disclosed that every district assembly will be required to construct at least two Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds annually to improve access to healthcare at the grassroots level.
He also revealed that assembly members are now receiving a minimum monthly allowance of over one thousand Ghana cedis, a move intended to enhance their effectiveness and commitment to local governance.
The Minister further indicated that the government has significantly increased the District Assemblies Common Fund allocation from 40 percent to 88.3 percent, aimed at accelerating development at the district level.

According to him, a total of 1.2 billion Ghana cedis has been disbursed to district assemblies following the latest performance assessment exercise.
In the Northern Region, eight assemblies successfully passed the assessment, while another eight failed to meet the required standards.
The government says it remains committed to strengthening oversight and ensuring improved performance across all district assemblies to drive national development.
