A joint military and police patrol team will on Monday July 20th embark on operation to enforce wearing of nose mask in the Northern region.
Residents stepping out from their homes without nose mask will be compel to either buy on the spot or go back home for their nose mask.
The move is said to have been sanctioned by the regional Security Council (REGSEC) will patrol the central business district of Tamale and all major entry points into the city. Four people in Tamale are standing trial in court for not wearing.
The four were arrested at the headquarters of the Northern Regional police command without nose mask when the police demanded they wear, they resisted leading to their arrest.
The enforcement of wearing of nose mask according to REGSEC is to prevent further spread of COVID-19 in the region.
A source from REGSEC told Zaa News that the decision became necessary after careful observation of how some residents still do not want to wear the nose mask.
The source said the behavior of some residents was endearing many people lives, especially when health expert warned infection from asymptomatic patients (people who do not show any signs of COVID-19).
The fear of the authoritiea was also born out of increasing cases in Tamale.
As at Thursday 17th July, 2020 the region case count stood at Northern Region – 271, Savannah Region – 57 with North East Region the lowest in country – 9.
Last week, Northern Regional health director, Dr John B Eleeza told the media that 6 staff of the regional health Directorate tested positive of COVID-19.
