The Sagnarigu Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Mohammed Ahmed Yakubu at the 37th Farmers day celebration has announced that the Sagnarigu municipality under his leadership will establish a light artisan agro-processing industry park to provide jobs all year round for the youth and women of the municipality.

When established, this park will add value to various produce from farms, thereby increasing the economic benefits of the agriculture sector.

‘’In addition to this, a micro credit scheme will be launched to provide easily accessible and affordable funding for women and youth farmers as well as agro entrepreneurs’’, he noted.

It is hoped that these interventions will improve livelihoods and bring prosperity to many people in the municipality. The MCE further stated that agriculture holds a great promise for the future prosperity of the municipality and urged the youth to consider making careers in the sector. He said there is also the need for deployment of technology to improve processes in the agriculture sector.

‘’The youth, being technological savvy can look into that to see how they can help in that direction. I am also aware of a few companies in the municipality leveraging on technology to improve output, increase market access and to improve the wellbeing of farmers as well’’, the MCE observed.

The overall best farmer Suleman Abdul-Razak after receiving his awards made a passionate appeal to government to pay serious attention to the agric sector. He awarded a certificate, tricycle, 4 cutlasses, 2 knapsack sprayers, and a pair of wellington boots.

This years’ farmers’ day which was observed at Sanga brought together farmers, agric industry players, government officials and stakeholders to celebrate hard working farmers. It was on the theme; ‘’Planting for Food and jobs; consolidating food systems in Ghana’’.
