Tamale: Forty-eight young women graduated under Youth Challenge International Programme of Herstart

The Youth Challenge International (YCI) has graduated about 48 young women under the Herstart: Seed Your Social Venture Programme in Tamale. The beneficiaries received 8 weeks of social entrepreneurship training to enable them scale up their businesses. 

The Herstart programme is designed to support young women realized a sustainable livelihood through social entrepreneurship. It seeks to build young women’s competencies to prepare a business idea to launch using innovative tools such as the Impact Business Model Canvas.  

The training leverages best practice tools adapted to meet the needs of young social innovators. It focuses on social innovation, idea testing, market assessment and measurement. Participants throughout the training were provided tools to support the design of gender-inclusive and environmentally sustainable products and services for their communities. 

Speaking to Zaa news, Country Representative and project lead at YCI Esmond Wisdom Quansah says, YCI intends to ensure sustainable livelihood while bridging the inequality gap in communities. Youth Challenge International is a youth-centered, non-profit, non-religious, non-governmental organization focused on international development issues.

 It aims to equip developing countries’ youth with skills and resources to contribute positively to their communities along with engaging Canadian youths in international development and social justice issues. The graduates were presented certificates of participation in the training. 

Head of Programme, Policy and Campaigns at Norsaac Hajia Hafsat Sey Sumani advised beneficiaries to make good use of the skills and knowledge acquired from the training. 

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to Zaa news appreciated YCI for equipping them with the skills and knowledge. They say the skills acquired will go a long way to empower them economically.

”We have learnt a lot during the 8 weeks training and we are so happy that YCI has given us such an opportunity to be able to compete with others in the business world”, they said
