Regent of Yeli Zoli Calls for peace After misunderstanding Between Hunters and some community members from Kuntumbiyili
The Regent of Yeli Zoli Traditional Area, Alhaji Muhamad Ibn Umar, has called for peace following a recent misunderstanding between some hunters and members of the Kuntumbiyili community in the Zabzugu district. He dismissed reports suggesting that the incident was an ethnic conflict between Dagombas and Kokombas, emphasizing that no such dispute exists between the two groups.
The Regent further urged security agencies to arrest the culprits from Kuntumbiyili and ensure that they face justice. He appealed for peace and unity, highlighting the longstanding cordial relationship between Dagombas and Kokombas.
Addressing the role of media, he cautioned social media users to be responsible in their reporting, warning that negative media coverage could deter potential investors. He revealed that he is currently in the United States of America seeking investors to support development projects in the Zabzugu district.
He urged them to avoid violence and prioritize peace. “I am not saying that the people of Zabzugu are cowards, but it is important to prioritize peace,” he stated. He stressed the devastating consequences of conflict and its impact on the development of Zabzugu and the Northern Region.
The Regent also warned social media users against spreading false information and advised them to conduct proper research before publishing. He issued a stern warning to troublemakers, stating that they should either leave the area or be prepared to face the law.
He reiterated the call for residents to abandon group hunting, in line with the directive from the Overlord of Dagbon, Ndan Yaa Naa, adding that Zabzugu residents can afford to buy meat without resorting to hunting.
The Regent assured all residents that they can go about their daily activities without fear. He called for unity among Dagombas and Kokombas, urging them to focus on fighting poverty and disease, which he described as their true common enemy.
