The Northern Regional Peace Council has called on parliamentary aspirants contesting the Tamale Central NDC primaries to maintain peace and civility during and after the elections.
The council emphasized the importance of issue-based campaigns, respect for divergent views, and responsible conduct.
The council held a crucial meeting with some aspirants on Thursday, September 19, 2025. Only 5 out of 12 aspirants attended, including Hajia Naama Manama Salifu, Hajia Salisu Mulaika, Lawyer Alhassan Sadat Haruna, Representative of Abdul Hanan Gundadoo and Hajia Shamima Yakubu.

The council briefed the aspirants on their observations and urged them to promote peace and tolerance.
A member of Council chairman, Alhaji Alhassan Mohammed Awal, appealed to aspirants, stakeholders, and residents to prioritize peace and mutual respect.
He emphasized that elections are an opportunity for citizens to exercise their constitutional right to vote and shape their communities’ futures.
On the peaceful conduct, the council urged aspirants and supporters to conduct their campaigns responsibly and avoid provocative language. They also encouraged aspirants to respect differing opinions and promote tolerance.
The council called on security agencies to remain professional, impartial, and vigilant.
The council appealed to traditional and religious leaders to guide their communities towards tolerance, unity, and non-violence.
The 5 aspirants who attended the meeting pledged to ensure peace and incident-free elections.
They acknowledged the importance of democracy and expressed their commitment to maintaining peace, despite the circumstances that led to the death of the late member of parliament and minister for Environment, science and technology, Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Murtal in the military helicopter crash.
On 6 August 2025, a Ghana Air Force Harbin Z-9 helicopter carrying eight people to an event to fighting illegal mining crashed into a forested mountainside in the Ashanti region of Ghana, killing all eight people on board.
The Tamale Central seat became vacant after the accident, and the people have to be represented in parliament.
