TAMALE, Aug. 22, 2026, — The Chief of Lamashegu, Lamashe-Naa Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu, has led a massive community clean-up exercise in Lamashegu and Zujung to promote environmental sanitation and community development.
The exercise, which started at 7:00 a.m. and ended at 3:30 p.m., brought together traditional leaders, elders, youth, women’s groups, opinion leaders and residents to clear accumulated refuse from major areas within the communities.
At the Lamashegu Market, the exercise began with the removal of heaps of refuse from the market and surrounding areas, while other participants simultaneously cleared sections of the main streets along the Tamale-Kumasi Highway, particularly the stretch around the Lamashe-Naa’s area.

Immediately after the market and highway operations, the Lamashe-Naa and his team moved to Zujung in the Nakpanzoo Electoral Area, where they joined residents to tackle large rubbish dumps that had accumulated in the area.
At Zujung, the Lamashe-Naa remained at the site for several hours to supervise the exercise, insisting that he would not return to the palace until the area had been satisfactorily cleared of filth.
Supporting the exercise, the Chief of Zujung and his elders, the Chief of Nakpanzoo and his elders, elders of the Lamashegu Chief Palace, as well as Dakpema Sabta-Naa and his elders, joined the operation.

For the residents, the personal involvement of the Lamashe-Naa and the participation of the various traditional authorities demonstrated the importance of collective leadership in addressing sanitation challenges.
According to residents, the exercise went beyond the removal of refuse, as it also created greater awareness of the need for individuals and households to take responsibility for maintaining clean surroundings.
Meanwhile, the Lamashe-Naa Palace has expressed profound gratitude to members of the Lamashegu community for their massive participation and support during the exercise.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Palace commended elders, youth, women’s groups, opinion leaders and other residents for their dedication, hard work and selfless contribution to the exercise.

The statement said the massive turnout demonstrated “the true strength of Lamashegu” and showed what could be achieved when community members united behind a common cause.
It further noted that the successful exercise was an indication that collective action and unity could contribute significantly to improving the health and general well-being of the community.
The Palace, therefore, urged residents to sustain the momentum generated by the exercise by making environmental cleanliness a continuous responsibility rather than an occasional activity.
In conclusion, the Lamashe-Naa Palace thanked all participants for their service to Lamashegu and called for continued cooperation among traditional authorities, community leaders and residents in promoting sanitation and community development.
