The Northern Regional Director of the Centre for National Cultural Centre (CNC), Gladys Tang emphasized the need to use culture as a tool to unite the people and promote the nation’s cultural heritage to attract the needed foreign investment. She said cultural practices that are divergent to the growth and development of the nation must be avoided to ensure the nation brings up a crop of youth that is committed to shouldering the positive development of the nation for posterity.

Madam Gladys made the call on Saturday during the grand durbar of the maiden edition of the Miss AFRO tourism and culture beauty pageant in Tamale. Miss AFRO tourism and culture is a beauty pageant organized to educate the youth especially girls on their culture. Madam Gladys described the Northern part of Ghana as a region with rich cultural values that need to be protected and maintained for the future and generations yet unborn. She, however, in her own way accepted the concept and urged traditional leaders, stakeholders, organizations and individuals to join hands to promote the Northern culture as well as tourism in order to bring development to the region.

The show brought together seven young ladies from the tertiary level in the three regions of the North. The durbar, also, was to create a platform for contestants to showcase their talent and to exhibit their various cultural dances to the public. The occasion was graced by chiefs and elders within the Tamale metropolis as well as stakeholders.

Contestants are currently groomed in a house with tremendous tuition on various cultures, tourism and everything that is special about their regions. Addressing the durbar, the Chief Executive Officer of the Afro Tourism and culture Dorcas Gayibor said the show is to help the youth know more about their culture and to attract foreign investors to the region to enhance development. She also ceased the opportunity to appeal to the chiefs and stakeholders in the region for their support to see the program to a success. She, however, advised the youth not to throw away their culture but promote it in a positive manner. Meanwhile the grand finale of the show is on the 14th of August 2015.
