The police and military personnel have been deployed to the Northern Regional Party Secretariat of the governing ruling national democratic congress (NDC) in Tamale to maintain law and order.
It follows news that a section of party supporters had resolved to set the edifice ablaze following sharp disagreements over the introduction of a clause in the guidelines for the election of party executive officers across the country.
The security were there to calm down tempers of members of the coalition of NDC youth groups who on Monday held a press conference addressed by its spokesperson, Mahama Suhunun to announce their dissatisfaction over the introduction of news clauses in their election guidelines.
The disagreement has been occasioned by what the group termed as smuggling of item 6(c) of the guidelines for the election of officers which deals with qualification for regional executive positions stipulates in clause 6 that “in addition, a member of the party shall not qualify to vie for regional executive position unless the member has prior to seeking election held an executive position in the constituency”.
This clause, they say was unfortunate and disturbing because it stated clearly in chapter 8, article 42(1f) of the NDC constitution which is applicable to only National Executive Committee positions.
But speaking to the media the NDC party’s treasurer and Director of elections, Rashid Tanko Computer explains that the decision was taken by the National Executive Committee and described the accusations as unfounded and appealed to the aggrieved members to rather petition NEC. He said the security presence was to avert any possible attack on office by the youth and also to maintain law and order.
Meanwhile, the agitated youth has since petition the Northern Region Minister, Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru Limuna who called for calm among all the youth groups in the region.

On Monday July 11, 2014, the youth groups of National Democratic Congress vehemently kicked against describing it as an attempt by the current National and northern regional executives to deny die heart party members from contesting various executive positions.
The youth also accused National Executive Council (NEC) for smuggling clauses into the guidelines for election of party executive officers. This was after the NDC has finished registration of biometric cards ahead of August and September election party officer.
The youth have warn the party to desist from introducing alien clauses into the NDC election guided lines or have themselves blame if they go ahead with their intended plan aimed at favouring mediocre national and regional executives whose actions they say was negatively affecting the NDC during elections.
Spokes person for the groups, Mahama Suhunun told news men that they are surprised that the leadership of NDC will deliberately hide behind article 50 of the party guidelines to denied true party members who diligently served the party to contest.
The angry youth threaten mayhem if NEC does not rescind its decision. True to their words after the elapse of the three day ultimatum on Wednesday, they mass up and match to the regional coordinating council to meet the minister.
The asked the minister after presenting their petition to chosen between them and the current regional executives so they can either leave the party or deal with the executives individually.
