According to authorities, three men were shot dead on Thursday in Bimbilla after two unidentified armed men on a motorcycle made a brief stop in the centre of the town near the hospital junction and opened fire on a group of people who had gathered at their usual sitting place. The gunmen fled the scene, officials added.
The three victims, identified by the northern regional police as Mr. Fuseini Issahaku, 35, Mr. Abdul Bassist Osman, 28, and Mr. Salifu Razak, 35, were pronounced dead on arrival at the Bimbilla government hospital.
Five people who also suffered what police described as life threatening gunshot wounds have been referred to the Tamale Teaching hospital.
The five are Mr. Mohammed Alabani, 60, Mr. Mohammed Shani, 46, Mr. Fusheni Mohammed Gadafi, 35, Mr. Mohammed Yahaya, 25, and Mr. Iddrisu Alimiyaw 28. Two others, Mr. Adam Yakubu, 30, and Mr. Ibrahim Musah are on admission at the Bimbilla hospital and responding to treatment, hospital officials said.
The northern regional police public relations officer, ASP Mohammed Yussif Tanko told the media that all the victims are said to be sympathizers of the Nakpa-Naa faction of the Bimbilla conflict.
Police/Military patrols intensified.
The Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) have beefed up security in the area and police and military patrols intensified. Thirty police personnel and ten military men have been sent to the area to avert further unrest. ASP Tanko said calm has returned to the area, though he warned, things are still unpredictable
Renew of curfew
Following this latest renewed chieftaincy clash, the Interior Minister, Mr. Ambrose Dery has renewed the curfew in Bimbilla from dusk to dawn; from 10 p.m. to 6a.m.
Arrest
Two people have been arrested by the combine team of the military and the police in days after the shooting. The two are Mr. Abdulai Kasim, 45. and Mr.Wumbei Mohammed, 40.
The security are on a manhunt for two remaining suspects, Mr. Alhassan Mobila, 45, and Mr. Alhassan Hardi, 25.
