A 70-year-old Abukari Mahama has been selected by the kingmakers of Dagbon as the new Yaa Naa.
He was selected by the oracles and announced by the four member committee led by the chief custodian, the Kuga Naa Abdulai Adam.
His title if properly enskinned will be Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II.
Until his elevation to the overlord of Dagbon, he was the paramount chief of Savelugu traditional area.
The selection process started Thursday after the second leg of the funeral of the late Yaa Naa Yakubu Andani II was going on.
The Gushegu Regent went and removed a torch (Moggu) from the walls of the Naa Gbewaa Palace which signaled that the authority of the late king is no more. It was then sent to the new overlord.
He is the grandfather of the Kampakuya Naa. The new Yaa Naa was the son of Naa Mahama Kurili.
The Boli Lana (Regent of Naa Mahamudu Abdulai VI) and the Kampakuya Naa (Regent of Yaa Naa Yakubu Andani II).
Leader of the four member committee, the chief custodian (Kuga Naa Abdulai Adam ) urged those he called chieftaincy contractors to stop the ugly noise.
The Kuga Naa told journalists that Dagbon peace was long overdue and everybody must be happy about the funeral rites performed by the Abudu and Andani families.
He dismissed suggestions that the selection of the Yoo Naa was premeditated after the three eminent chiefs chaired by the Asantehene presented their report to the president.
The Kuga Naa said the four member committee individually did their work and collectively the oracle chose the Yoo Naa.
Candidates
During the process of the late Yaa Naa funeral, four royals expressed interest to ascend to Dagbon skin.
The four were chief of Savelugu(Yoo Naa Abukari Mahama), the Boli Lana Abdulai Mahamudu, the Tampion Chief who is a brother to the murdered king and the Kampakuya Naa Andani Abdulai. Their interest were sent in the form of burial kites to the chief mourner who then sent them to the chief customers

After the news broke on Friday afternoon, the Regent of Tolon retired majorq Sulemana Abukari led a three member delegation to congratulatory massage to Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama.
The delegation according to the spokesman for the new Yaa Naa pleaded with him to be fair as precise over the Dagbon kingdom.
The Boli Lana assured the new Yaa Naa he described as his unflinching support and loyalty to him so long as he leads Dagbon.
The Boli Lana in statement said” it is our prayer that the almighty Allah will grant him the wisdom to lead and unite Dagbon as we enter into a new dawn of reconciliation, friendship, brotherliness and unity.
