A Nigerian based Tamale Islamic scholar, Sheik Malam Fari has described the late Vice President of Ghana, Alhaji Aliu Mahama as a unifier.
The late Vice President according to Sheik Malam Fari did not belong to any faction in either the chieftaincy or religious realms in but was interested in uniting the people of the northern region.
The late Vice President, Sheik Malam Fari said, did his best for the region and Ghana as a whole and his good work will give him peaceful eternal rest.
Addressing a memorial service organized by Mr. Faruk Aliu Mahama, son of the late Vice President, Malam Fari attributed the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) 2016 election victory to the former Vice President traits.
Sheik Malam Fari explained that, many people were fed up with the NPP but for the good work of the late Alhaji Aliu, NPP will have struggled for power for long.
The late Vice President, he added, prepared a solid ground for the party’s election victory and party members cannot rule out his contribution. Sheik Malam Fari prayed for his gentle soul and unity in his family. Imams from various mosques took terms at service eulogizing the late Aliu Mahama for his contributions to humanity and the north.
The Zongo chief, Sheik Abdul Mumin Dalhu, Sheik Rufai Abubakari, Sheik Yussif Bahani, Alhaji Imoro Anyass and Sheik Mustapha Ciccey among others were those who graced the ceremony.
Speaking to Zaa News, Mr.Faruk said his father’s legacy still lingers on long after his death. His father, he said, touched base in almost every part of Ghana carrying activities such as donations to the needy yearly.
He hinted that discussions within the ruling government is ongoing to name the Tamale sports stadium after the late Vice President. A library complex to be named after his father is expected to be built in Yendi is also in the pipeline.
“Is a norm our late father used to do when he was alive and it behooves on me as his son together with my uncles to continue his good works,” Faruk added.
Meanwhile the government of Ghana led by president Nana Addo is determined to promote the legacy of the late Vice President to make him relevant in the history of Ghanaian politics, Mr Faruk explained.
The late Vice President while in office was championing a campaign on the need for discipline and the family Mr Faruk said is undertaking what he called “Do the Right think.”
“Our father made us who we are today and we will continue to call for discipline in the Ghanaian society,” he stated.
