’Mansongsim’ Association appeals to US embassy for irrigational equipment for dry farming

The Kuga-Fong “Mansongsim’’ which literally means self-help Community Association, a local based non-governmental organization in Savelugu in collaboration with the United States Embassy has commissioned an income generation live-stock project at Libiga in the Savelugu/Nantong municipality.
The seven-thousand US dollars ($7,000)  ’’ self-help’’ project is expected to provide job opportunities for the people, especially women and youth in the area.
 
The Mansongsim association is providing labour while the US embassy commensurate with funds and materials for over 24 ruminants.
 
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony at the project site in Libiga, the Executive Director of the Mansongsim association, Muhammed Abdul-Sumed Gunu said the project marks another mile stone of the association’s effort in development drive of the area. 
 
The project, according to Mr. Gunu is in line with developmental aids such as the Millennium Challenge Account, Ambassadors Special Self-Help program and the PEPFAR program among others operating in Savelugu and its environs.
 
 
He said his outfit has identified poverty as the number one enemy of the north and called on all to join hands to get rid of poverty among the people in the northern region.
 
Mr. Gunu mentioned education, agriculture, income generating activities with emphasis on education as some of the critical areas that the people in the region should gear their energies towards.
 
 
He commended the US embassy for her continued support to the people in Savelugu and Ghana as a whole and appealed to the embassy to consider supporting Libiga community with irrigational equipment to enhance their dry season farming.
 
 
Mr. Gunu also appealed to government to as a matter of urgency, make antiretroviral drugs available for infected persons; claiming that the drugs are not currently available in the region.
 
The Kuga-Fong Mansongsim community association through its donors has provided over one million five- hundred Ghana cedis for the provision of school infrastructure, HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns and capacity building of women, especially the girl-child in the savelugu municipality.
 
The US embassy project coordinator, Miss Lizer White thanked Mansongsim association for initiating such project and assured the US government’s commitment to supporting the people of Ghana, especially the rural poor.]]>
