Assembly members in the Nanton District Assembly on Thursday overwhelmingly endorsed the president’s nominee for the post of district chief executive.
At a short ceremony in the fore court of the assembly, Mr. Abubakari Hati-Rahamani was confirmed by the twenty elected members and seven government appointees.
Before the confirmation, the regent of Nanton and the northern regional minister appealed to the assembly members to do the honorable thing by confirming the nominee for the interest of speedy development in the area.
The regent told the assembly members that Nanton needs development and urged staff and the people in the area to rally behind the DCE.
The elected Nanton DCE, the regent noted, is capable of discharging his duties effectively and advised the DCE to always consult the chiefs in his quest for ensure development.
Mr. Rahamani who was sworn in by the regional minister thanked the president for nominating him to serve the people in the area. Once a presiding member in the then Savelugu/Nanton municipal assembly, he promised to run his office as an open door. He assured the people that he will live up to their expectations.
There are some bottlenecks ahead for the newly appointed DCE. Foremost is addressing key developmental challenges such as bad roads and lack of access to potable water.
Member of Parliament for Nanton, Alhaji Hadi Tuferu commended the assembly members for respecting the president and the traditional rulers in the area.
He reiterated the government’s commitment in addressing the challenges in Nanton traditional area and the district as a whole.
The Northern Regional Minister Mr Salifu Saeed reminded the DCE that the position is not to lord it over the people in the area.
