‎The Northern Region has gained notable recognition in Ghana’s latest diplomatic appointments, with three distinguished personalities from the area named among the country’s 18 new Deputy Heads of Mission.

‎In a letter dated September 11, 2025, and signed by Dr. Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, the Minister of Foreign Affairs was directed to take the necessary steps to formalize the appointments.

‎Those from the Northern Region include Hon. Mohammed Ibn Abass, Hon. Sulemana Ibn Iddrisu (popularly known as Baba Tanzania), and Hajia Jamila Amadu.

‎Hon. Mohammed Ibn Abass, a former Member of Parliament for Bimbilla and District Chief Executive for Nanumba North, has been appointed Deputy Head of Mission to the Arab Republic of Egypt. Before entering politics, he served as a tutor at the Bimbilla Training College and is widely respected for his dedication to education and local governance.

‎Hon. Sulemana Ibn Iddrisu, affectionately called Baba Tanzania, has been named Deputy Head of Mission to the Republic of India. The former MP for Yendi studied political science at the University of Delhi, where he obtained both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in the 1980s. He previously served as Regional Director of NADMO and worked with ECOWAS as an election observer.

‎Completing the trio is Hajia Jamila Amadu, who has been appointed Deputy Head of Mission to the United Arab Emirates. A native of Tatale and alumna of the University for Development Studies, Hajia Jamila is an educationist and Northern Regional Zongo Caucus Coordinator of the NDC. She is widely recognized for her work in women’s empowerment and community development.

‎Observers have described the Northern Region’s representation as a reflection of the President’s commitment to regional balance and inclusivity in Ghana’s foreign service. The appointments, they say, bring experienced and patriotic hands from the north into Ghana’s diplomatic mission network.

‎The three join a distinguished list of other Deputy Heads of Mission posted to countries including Germany, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, China, and South Africa.

‎Their elevation has been widely welcomed in the Northern Region as both an honor and an inspiration to the next generation of public servants.
