Residents of Nantong Kpawumo in the Tamale North Constituency are threatening not take part in 2012 elections following what they describe as discrimination and neglect by successive governments.
The residents say they have been voting the NDC since 1992 and have not see any development after several promises.
The residents who are predominantly farmers say they have been denied from their share of the national cake since 1992 and are therefore appealing to the Tamale North constituency member of parliament, Alhaji Abukari Sumani to as a matter of urgency honor his promise of providing them with electricity within this month.
The residents told Zaa News that they pay between 50 pesewas and one Ghana cedis to charge their mobile phones at Fu, a nearby community while women travel several miles in search of grinding mills, a situation they described as unacceptable in the 20 first century.
The only feeder road leading to the community has been inundated with water making it very difficult for the residents to go to tamale metropolis to transact their businesses.
A youth leader of the community, Yakubu Alhassan told Zaa News that if they don’t get electricity within a month, no ballot box would be placed in the area on December 7 elections. All efforts to get the Member of Parliament for the area to react to the community's concerns proved futile.
However, the Assemblyman for the area, Mahamudu Sugri assured Kpawumo community that they would be connected to the national grid before 2012 elections.
Mr Sugri said he is liaising with the Member of Parliament for the area and assembly to ensure that the community gets its share of the national cake. Kpawumo community which has over two hundred registered voters can only boost of a children home established by a native of the community with the assistance of volunteers from Europe. The three bed room children’s home also serves as a school for the kids in Kpawumo. ]]>
