3 Tamale residents arrested for snatching a car

Three residents of Tamale were arrested Friday for stealing a car, authorities said. The three suspects, Abdul Sallam, 35 unemployed, Adam Sagri, 44, a taxi driver and Dana Steven Nindo were busted upon a tip off at Gushie for snatching a punto ELX taxi with registration number NR 273-14 from the driver with a knife.

The complainant Eric Asui, a taxi driver said that at about 4pm while going on with his normal business, the suspects Sallam and Nindo hired him around the Goil fueling station to Kanvilli, a suburb of Tamale metropolis.

Asui told authorities that he and one of the suspects, Sallam, agreed on an undisclosed fee and as they got closer to their destination the suspect directed him to slow down and he did.  Sallam then pulled out a knife and stabbed him from behind and pushed him out of the car.  The suspects then fled towards the Bolgatanga road in the stolen car.
Nindo then contacted Sagri to drive the vehicle to Navrongo in the Upper East region for an undisclosed amount.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the Northern Regional Police Command, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh who confirmed the arrest to Zaa News, after a complain was made by the victim, a wireless message was sent to all police barriers along the Bolgatanga road to be on the look out for the stolen car.

A police officer at the Savelugu barrier whose name was only given as Ototuo recognized the car and alerted the next barrier at Gushie in the Savelugu Nanton/Municipality where the suspects were arrested after a hot pursuit.

Sallam according to police will be charged with robbery and the other two suspects will be charged with abetment of crime. They have since been remanded into police custody at the Tamale police station and will be arraigned before the Tamale Magistrate Court on  Monday.
