0

As the world marks World Hepatitis Day, a Public Health Specialist at the Tamale Teaching Hospital-TTH, Alhaji Mustapha Tahiru has advised the general public to know their hepatitis status or vaccinate against the disease.
He cautioned against kissing, sexual activities, use of barbering machines, smoking, and alcoholism.
Alhaji Tahiru in an interview with Zaa news said the hepatitis disease, which is a viral disease has become a silent killer in recent times, hence the need for the public to be wary of some causative factors and preventive modes.
The disease he said thrived well on body fluids and could stay outside the body and may therefore, stick on objects such as earrings, razors blades, infected needles as well as fluid transmission including penal, virginal blood and saliva fluids.
He said the hepatitis disease especially the B and C types, were dangerous and described type B as the worst of all the types of hepatitis.
The public health specialist said hepatitis is a silent killer that destroys the liver, which is supposed to mob up all toxins from the body and with time, those body waste begin to mix with the blood and cause many health problems.
He has therefore, called on the citizens to take active preventive measures by sticking to one sexual partner, having their own barbering tools getting vaccinated or tested to know one’s status. World Hepatitis Day (WHD) takes place every year on 28 July bringing the world together under a single theme to raise awareness of the global burden of viral hepatitis and to influence real change. In 2021 the theme is ‘Hepatitis Can’t Wait’.
