Two young men on Thursday night escaped certain death by lynching at the hands of an angry mob around Choggu Yapalisi, according to officials.
According to authorities, the two at about 15:30 pm were subjected to severe beatings and suffered multiple injuries to their bodies for allegedly stealing a tricycle popularly known as “yellow-yellow” at Wolejane, near the Tamale Polytechnic University area in the Sagnarigu Municipality. The two friends according to police were chased by a mob and beaten senseless.
Police said the two, Iddrisu Mohammed age 18 and Yussif age about 24 yrs are on admission at the Tamale Teaching Hospital in critical condition.
DSP Yussif Tanko said the tricycle which was allegedly stolen was found parked at the scene. A clot of blood was found at the scene indicated the severity of the beatings the two suspects received. Thought the two young men were not thieves, they were perceived as such and therefore attacked by the mob, DSP explained.
Meanwhile the tricycle has been taken to the station to enable police investigate the case and press charges of theft against the two young men. Anybody with information related to the issue is advised to contact the Tamale Police.
The police has warned the public against taking the law into their hands by subjecting suspects to mob justice.
