Over 1500 girls who have completed Senior High School through Camfed Ghana sponsorship have graduated at a ceremony in Tamale on Monday. The occasion was to celebrate the efforts of the girls in conducting themselves above reproach throughout their stay in school.
Camfed Ghana supported the girls through Senior High School (SHS) providing them with the necessary basic school needs. The celebration which is a four-day event is on the theme: Strengthening the Future of Young Women.
The girls through the transition training were taken through special areas of financial literacy, education, university application, entrepreneurship in order to empower them to be self-confident as well as independent as they step into the world to start life.
Speaking to Zaa news the Senior Programs Officer for Camfed Ghana, Mr. Emmanuel Obeng Agyei stated that the girls were selected at the community level in seventeen Camfed operating districts in the northern region with assistance from community leaders.
Camfed Ghana is a non-governmental organization working in five African countries including Ghana with the aim of campaigning for girl-child education. Since 1998 it has supported girls in education making sure the girl -child has a place in society.
Camfed Ghana, Mr Agyei noted, also offers support to girls who seek jobs or want to go to university after completing SHS as well as those who want to do business.
Some of the students who spoke to Zaa News commended Camfed Ghana for the support and promised to be of good behaviour to be able to face the challenges ahead of them.
