Lack of befitting accommodation contributes to refusal of postings by health personnel-Northern Regional Director of Health Services
The Northern Regional Director of Health Services Dr. Abubakari Baba Braimah has appealed for accommodation for doctors and other medical specialists to enhance healthcare delivery in the region.
According to him, most doctors and specialists posted to the districts reject postings due to lack of residential accommodation; a situation he says is hindering healthcare delivery in the region.
Accommodation challenges are major problem that make doctors and other health professionals reject their postings to rural areas.
Dr Braimah speaking to Medical Doctors, Surgeon and Anesthetist at a Surgical Outreach Programme in Bimbilla says, although the region needs doctors and specialists, the lack of accommodation prevents them from coming to work in the area. He called on the Government and institutions to come to their aid.
Medical Superintendent of Bimbilla Hospital Dr. Barihama Adam reveals that the Bimbilla Municipal Hospital currently has two medical doctors serving the entire Bimbilla population of over 160, 000 which is woefully inadequate.
He also cited bad road network as well as lack of potable water in some districts as some contributory factors influencing the refusal of posting to rural communities by health personnel. He says to address this menace; health personnel working in rural areas should be given motivational packages.
But the Municipal Chief Executive for Bimbilla Abdulai Yaquob responding to the health Director’s plea assured that the assembly will provide accommodation for staff of the hospital next year.
