The former Member of Parliament for Zabzugu, Hon. Alhassan Umar Obaako, has stated that the Nana Addo-Bawumia-led government cannot take full credit for the Tamale-Mion-Yendi-Zabzugu-Tatale-Nachamba road construction project. According to him, the idea of the project was conceived by the then-John Mahama-led administration, and funding was secured for the project before the NDC left office.

Speaking on the performance of the NPP government in the Zabzugu Constituency, Mr. Umar Obaako recalled former president John Dramani Mahama, who on August 26, 2016, announced to party supporters at Zabzugu that his government had obtained funding from the World Bank to construct a bituminous double surface dressing road from Tatale to Zabzugu to Yendi in the Northern Region.

He quoted the former president as saying “Proposals had been approved and the tendering process completed for work to begin on the 80-kilometer road up to Natchamba, which shared a boundary with the Republic of Togo”.

Mr. Umar Obaako, who was elected as the Parliament Candidate during the recent NDC primaries, recounted numerous development project interventions during his tenure as MP for the area.

He mentioned the construction of Zabzugu RCHC in Zabzugu township, Vokpia Primary School in Kowrli, extension of electricity to some schools in Zabzugu township, support to students at all levels, reroofing of Mognegu and Gor Kuni primary schools, sinking of 22 boreholes in some communities, provision of anti-snake venom (ASV), procurement of 29 beds for the hospital, and COVID-19 support to the Ghana Health Services, among others.
