Government Revolutionizes Hajj Pilgrimage Experience with Expedited Passport Processing

In a very highly significant move, the government of Ghana has introduced measures to expedite passport processing specifically for Hajj pilgrims, marking a major milestone in the country’s history. According to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, this initiative aims to streamline the process, ensuring that pilgrims can obtain their passports with ease.

Speaking at the Hajj Village on Tuesday, March 4, Ablakwa emphasized that this move is in line with the government’s broader agenda to improve service delivery for all citizens. He highlighted that President John Dramani Mahama has thrown his full weight behind this initiative, reaffirming his commitment to making essential government services accessible to all Ghanaians.

Ablakwa described Hajj as a deeply spiritual and transformative journey for Muslims worldwide, underscoring its importance. He noted that the government recognizes the importance of facilitating a smooth pilgrimage experience for Ghanaian Muslims.

To achieve this, the government has introduced a more efficient passport processing system, aiming to eliminate bureaucratic delays and ensure a seamless travel experience.

The initiative has been widely welcomed by members of the Muslim community, who see it as a progressive step towards inclusivity and improved public service delivery. Ablakwa assured Ghanaians that similar efforts would continue across various sectors to enhance accessibility and efficiency in government services.In addition to the expedited passport processing, the government has also established a special passport centre at the Hajj Village, which will operate from March 4 to March 13, 2025.

This centre is dedicated exclusively to Hajj pilgrims, ensuring they receive timely assistance. Furthermore, the Foreign Ministry is rolling out kiosks at regional passport application centres to assist applicants across the country.
