President Mahama Honours UDS Football Team for World University Cup Triumph
Tamale, Northern Region— The University for Development Studies (UDS) football team, champions of the World University Football Cup, has received national recognition following a presidential reception at the Jubilee House hosted by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.
The event, held in honour of the team’s historic victory, celebrated UDS’s remarkable performance on the global stage, which earned Ghana its first-ever World University Football title. The triumph, widely hailed as a milestone in Ghana’s sporting history, has positioned UDS — and by extension, Ghana — among the elite in international university football.
President Mahama praised the players and technical team for their discipline, teamwork, and commitment to excellence, describing their victory as a reflection of the untapped potential of Ghanaian youth.
“You have brought immense pride to the nation and demonstrated that with hard work and determination, Ghanaian students can compete and win at the highest level,” the President remarked.
He further assured the team of the government’s continued support for university sports development, emphasizing that sports remain a powerful tool for youth empowerment, national unity, and international recognition.
The UDS delegation, led by university authorities, expressed gratitude to the President for the recognition and reiterated their commitment to sustaining excellence both on and off the pitch.
