The Regent of Yelzoli, Alhaji Muhammad Umar, has issued a statement appealing to traders affected by the recent fire outbreak at the Zabzugu market to remain calm as efforts are underway to secure relief and restore the market.
In the statement released on behalf of the Yelzoli Traditional Area, the Regent indicated that traditional authorities are working together with the constituency Member of Parliament, the Zabzugu District Assembly, and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to mobilize emergency support for victims of the disaster. He noted that the immediate priority is to provide assistance to affected traders and help them return to business as quickly as possible.
He further assured residents that the traditional council is collaborating with relevant stakeholders to facilitate the restoration of normal economic activity in the market and the wider community.
The Regent also expressed concern over reports that some individuals allegedly carried away goods and property belonging to traders during the confusion caused by the fire. He urged anyone who retrieved items from the scene to return them to their rightful owners.
He emphasized that returning the goods would promote justice, unity, and communal harmony, particularly at a time when victims are struggling to recover from heavy losses.
Chief Alhaji Muhammad Umar further called on residents to show compassion and solidarity with the affected traders, noting that community support will be crucial in helping them rebuild their livelihoods after the incident.
The cause of the fire has not yet been officially established, and authorities are expected to conduct an assessment to determine the extent of damage and the level of assistance required for victims.
