TAMALE, August 24, 2026 — The Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Ali Adolf John, has received a delegation from the Tolon Traditional Area to formally inform him of the passing of the Paramount Chief of the Tolon Traditional Area, Naa Yab Tolon Naa Abukari Sulemana (Major Rtd).
The delegation, led by the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Tolon, Hon. Seidu Braimah, included representatives of the Tolon Traditional Council and other key stakeholders.
The delegation formally notified the Northern Regional Coordinating Council of the death of the Paramount Chief, who passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
According to the delegation, the late Paramount Chief was buried in accordance with the customs and traditions of the Tolon Traditional Area following his death. The traditional three-day Adua ceremony in his honour has been scheduled for Friday, August 28, 2026.
Receiving the delegation, Hon. Ali Adolf John expressed his condolences to the bereaved royal family, the Tolon Traditional Council, the people of Tolon and the entire Northern Region.
He described the late Paramount Chief as a respected traditional leader whose contributions to peace, development and stability in the Tolon Traditional Area would be remembered by generations.
The Minister said the death of a traditional leader of such standing constituted a significant loss not only to the Tolon Traditional Area but also to the Northern Region, particularly in view of the important role traditional authorities play in promoting peace, unity, development and social cohesion.
Hon. Adolf John commended the late Paramount Chief for his service and commitment to the welfare and development of his people during his reign.
He assured the delegation that the Northern Regional Coordinating Council would support the Tolon Traditional Council and the bereaved family throughout the mourning and funeral processes.
The Minister also appealed to the people of Tolon, particularly the youth, to remain united, peaceful and respectful of the customs and traditions of the traditional area as they mourn their late Paramount Chief.
He urged residents to demonstrate maturity and ensure that all funeral activities were conducted in an atmosphere of peace, order and dignity.
Hon. Adolf John further encouraged the bereaved family and the Traditional Council to draw strength from the legacy of the late Paramount Chief and to build on his contributions to the development of the Tolon Traditional Area.
The delegation expressed appreciation to the Regional Minister for receiving them and for the condolences, support and assurances extended to the Tolon Traditional Area.
The passing of Naa Yab Tolon Naa Abukari Sulemana (Major Rtd) has been described as a significant loss to the Tolon Traditional Area and the Northern Region, with traditional leaders, government officials, family members and residents expected to come together to mourn and honour the late Paramount Chief.
The Northern Regional Coordinating Council has extended its deepest condolences to the Tolon Traditional Council, the royal family and the people of Tolon, and wished the bereaved family strength and comfort during the period of mourning.
