The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament has begun its zonal public hearings in Tamale to consider findings from the 2025 Auditor-General’s Report.
Zone One hearings are focusing on institutions across the Northern, Savannah, North East, Upper East, and Upper West Regions. Prior to the commencement of proceedings, members of the committee paid a courtesy call on the Northern Regional Minister at the Regional Coordinating Council.
The PAC is expected to sit for four days, during which it will examine the Auditor-General’s Report on public universities and colleges of education for 2024. Reports on pre-university educational institutions.
They also look at the management of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) and other statutory funds for the year ended 31st December 2024.
The zonal hearings form part of Parliament’s oversight responsibility to ensure prudent use of state resources and strengthen public financial management across the country.
The Northern Regional Minister, Adolf Ali John, disclosed that all 16 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the region have been duly informed and are prepared to provide the necessary documentation regarding their use of public funds.

He further assured the committee of a safe and conducive stay during the exercise.
In brief remarks, the Chairperson of the Committee, Abena Osei-Asare, stated that the hearings are aimed at promoting fairness, accountability, and transparency in the management of public resources.
She emphasized that the process is not intended to victimize individuals, but rather to ensure that public institutions adhere to sound financial practices.
