YENDI, Ghana – The North America Dagbamba Naa, Naa-Nyab Yelizoli Gbang-Lana, has presented a cash donation of GH¢5,000 on behalf of the Dagbamba community in the United States to support the enskinment of Kampakuya Naa Yakubu as Regent of Dagbon.
According to palace sources, the donation is intended to facilitate preparations at the Gbewaa Palace, particularly the reception and hospitality arrangements for the numerous chiefs, dignitaries, and guests expected to grace the historic enskinment ceremony.
The presentation followed the successful completion of the Yelizoli Gbang-Lana’s customary rite known as Gungong Kpebu, an important traditional obligation that precedes major royal ceremonies within the Dagbon Kingdom.
In keeping with tradition, the Yelizoli Gbang-Lana led a colourful procession of sub-chiefs from the Zabzugu Traditional Area, accompanied by their warriors, popularly known as Sapashin-Nima. Armed with more than 80 ceremonial muskets, the warriors staged a symbolic display that reflected the unity, strength, and enduring authority of the Yelizoli Traditional Area, while underscoring the rich military heritage of Dagbon.
Amid the rhythmic sounds of traditional drumming, singing, and dancing, the delegation made its way to the historic Gbewaa Palace, where they paid homage to Kampakuya Naa Yakubu. It was during this solemn traditional visit that the North America Dagbamba Naa formally handed over the GH¢5,000 contribution as a gesture of solidarity and unwavering support for the enskinment.
Significantly, the donation demonstrates the enduring bond between the Dagbamba diaspora and their ancestral homeland. It reflects the commitment of Dagbamba living abroad to preserving the customs, traditions, and cultural identity of the Dagbon Kingdom, while contributing meaningfully to important royal occasions.
