Authorities in the Sagnarigu Municipality have imposed an indefinite nightly curfew on Damankungyili, Nyeshie and surrounding communities after violent clashes resulted in one death and six injuries.
The curfew, announced by the Sagnarigu Municipal Security Council (MUSEC), takes effect from Tuesday, August 4, 2026, and will be enforced daily between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.
The directive followed an emergency security meeting held in consultation with the Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC). Officials say the measure is intended to restore peace, protect residents and prevent any further deterioration of the security situation.
In its statement, MUSEC condemned the violence and conveyed its condolences to the family of the deceased while expressing hope for the speedy recovery of those receiving treatment.
As part of heightened security measures, the Council has prohibited the carrying of firearms, ammunition and other offensive weapons within the affected communities. Security personnel have also intensified joint patrols to ensure strict enforcement of the curfew and maintain law and order.
Residents have been urged to remain calm and support efforts to restore peace by cooperating with security agencies. The Council also called on anyone with useful information about the disturbances to assist police investigations.
Traditional authorities, youth leaders and community members have been encouraged to work together to prevent further violence, while media houses have been advised to report responsibly and avoid content that could inflame tensions.
Chairman of MUSEC and Sagnarigu Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Abdulai Imoro Gong, said the Council will continue to assess developments and provide updates as the situation evolves.
