Unik Savannah Company Limited, a private company in collaboration with government and the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) has presented 100 tricycles to the residents of Zabzugu constituency. Unik Savannah Company Limited is the sole distribution agent of tricycle motorbikes in the Northern regions.
The tricyles were procured at a lesser cost by government through its PPP partnership with a Chinese motor bike manufacturing company, Jialing for the people of the Savannah Ecololgical Zone.
The Zabzugu NDC constituency chairman who was instrumental in the procurement of the tricyle motor bikes entreated the recipients to make good use of them. He added that this was the first batch of tricyles and that a second batch would be donated in the future but that will only materialize if the recipients conduct themselves well.
The tricycles were given to people who had applied to use them to cart goods and provide services to and from hard-to-reach areas in the region. Sheik Alhassan, the distribution agent in charge of the three northern regions told the recipients that, he will not hesitate to repossess the bikes if they renege in paying the full cost of the tricycles. The total cost of a bike is 1500 Ghana Cedis. Those who purchased the bikes were required to put down an initial deposit of 700 Ghana cedis
The Zabzugu constituency chairman Alhaji Bawa Alidu reiterated president John Mahama's commitment to addressing the problem of youth unemployment. He also assured the people of the government's intention to sell tractors at affordable prices.
Sabare assemblyman
The newly-elected assemblyman for Sabare electoral area in the Zabzugu district of the northern region, Joseph Dordoye commended the government and its partners for the tricycle initiative and said the tricyles will go a long to help solve transportation problems confronting rural people.
Dordoye who took delivery of one of the tricycles for Sabare No 2 community expressed displeasure with the government over its neglect of the road network in the area which he said had deteriorated and was taking a toll on travellers. He also lamented the poor water situation in the area and promised to raise the two issues when the assembly convenes. Dordoye told Zaa radio that several farms were affected when the Bagri Dam overflowed its banks. Some of the affected areas include Deboi and a community behind Jonku area
The assembly man who will be supervising 21 communities promised to lead elders and Chiefs in his electoral area to whoever is concerned in the assembly to find solutions to their problems.
