Some widows in the Tamale metropolis are appealing to philanthropist to come to their aid to salvage them from their current predicaments.
The widows whose livelihood currently depends on two maize bowl with two Ghana cedis from Shekina clinic headed by Dr Abdulai in Tamale say their hopes for survival now lies in the hands of Allah.
The over 25 widows in Tamale say they have been living under difficult conditions over decades now after their husbands’ demise.
The widows say their difficulties begun after the 40 days rituals being performed by family members which by customs and traditions mandate them to go back to their various family houses.
The generosity by Dr Abdulai is perhaps something that keeps their body and soul together whiles waiting for Allah’s intervention for any support.
In spite of their current predicaments, some of the widows are still taken care of their grandchildren with the little generosities from people like Dr Abdulai.
Asked whether the relatives of their late husbands are aware of their situations, the widows say they are aware and have done nothing to help them.
Some of the widows who spoke to Zaa News say they have resorted to petty trading with less than 20 Ghana cedis as their capital to take care of themselves.
The widows every Saturday converged at their meeting place to contribute one Ghana cedi each to ensure each other’s welfare and discuss how to cope with their situations.
The Leader of the widows Elizabeth Akuma tells Zaa News that she took up the responsibility upon herself to organized the women who, through no fault of theirs, lost their husbands to instill some hope in them.
Madam Elizabeth herself a widow said her colleagues are really in need of help to improve their living conditions.
To ameliorate the widows’ predicaments, the Northern Regional Women Organizer of NDC and a parliamentary aspirant of the Sagnarigu Constituency, Olivia Hawa Yahaya who was touched by their plight donated 15 bags of maize and some detergents worth thousands of Ghana cedis to the widows.
Madam Olivia appealed to the widows not to lose hope but have trust in God. Madam Olivia who is also a widow promised to do all she could to help empower the old-ladies economically to improve their living conditions. ]]>
