The committee set up by the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) at the instance of the Regent of Dagbon, Kampakuya Naa Abdulai Yakubu Andani, to investigate controversies surrounding the true ownership of the Technical University college of Tamale has presented its recommendations.
The six member committee was tasked to establish the reason behind the impasse between Anbariya Islamic Institute and Professor Abubakari Al-Hassan, acting principal of the college.
The committee’s terms of reference were among other things to investigate facts pertaining to the true ownership of the Technical University College of Tamale.
The committee recommended that Professor Abubakari Al-Hassan is not the true owner of the college and that Ambariya Islamic institute is the owner of the University College.
The recommendation proposed the establishment of an interim management committee to manage the affairs of the university until proper administrative structures is put in place to run it.
The committee also recommended that, the university college be reverted to its original name of Anbariya Technical University College.
It said even though Professor Abubakari Al-Hassan played an important role in the establishment of the university college, his continued involvement in its affairs will not promote peace as there is animosity, distrust and bad blood between him and the Anbariya Islamic Institute.
The committee further recommended that, Professor Abubakari be relieved of the role he currently plays at the university college.
The committee also recommended that inventory of property belonging to the institute be taken and proper handing over done by Professor Abubakari to Anbariya Islamic Institute.
It said students of the university should be maintained in the vittin campus and should not be move.
The committee recommended further that staff of the university be maintained since they are paid from the students fees.
Meanwhile some concerned students of the university college have been expressing worry over the stalemate in the affiliation of the college to the University of Ghana (UG) and Kwame Nkrumah University of science and Technology (KNUST).
They claim that the impasse between the Ambariya Islamic Institute and Professor Abubakari Alhassan stalled the affiliation process and are appealing to the government and the two universities to ensure that the process is complete before final year students of the university graduate.
Zaa radio has cited a letter authored by the regional minister, Moses Mabengba appealing to UG and KNUST to rescind their decision to discontinue the affiliation process.]]>
