Ghanaian investors have been urged to invest and tap into the huge potential of Eco Tourism in the three regions of Northern Ghana.
This was contained in a statement delivered by the regional director of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Mr. Alexander Kwame Nketia, during an inter-school Eco Tourism Quiz competition organised for some selected Senior High Schools from the Upper East, Upper West and Northern Regions.
The event which forms part of a series of activities earmarked by the northern regional directorate of the Ghana tourism Authority to mark the World Tourism Day, will, among others, bring together investors and industry players to identify and to enhance the tourism investment opportunities in the three regions of the north.
Mr. Nketia noted that the celebration of world tourism day is meaningless if investors do not tap into the potential of the sector which will create more jobs and wealth to improve the lives of people in the three regions of northern Ghana.
He added that the three regions are endowed with the most interesting natural Eco tourist sites with a large landscape of the savannah and the numerous water bodies, coupled with wonderful people whose culture of hospitality is unmatched in the country.
He declared the tourism directorate’s preparedness to offer consultation and help to any individual, group or organisation who intends to invest in the sector.
In a statement, Dr. Chrys Anab, the Director of Social Development at Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA), stressed that domestic tourism can be given a competitive boost if Ghanaian indigenes patronise local tourist sites.
He added that the quiz competition is a means of engaging students to learn the habit of patronising tourist attractions.
Dr. Anab indicated that it does not require huge amounts of money to visit a tourist site. He encouraged students and Ghanaians in general to consciously make efforts and a good habit of saving some money to embark on holiday trips to these sites.
In the Tourism Quiz contest, Tamale Senior High School and Ghana Senior High School represented the Northern Region, St. Francis Xavier Minor Seminary Senior High School and Nandom Senior High represented the Upper West Region while Bolga Girls Senior High School and Zamse Senior High represented the Upper East region.
Saint Francis Xavier Minor Seminary SHS Wa, emerged winners after a keenly contested first, second and third rounds, when they pulled away in the fourth round to beat their counterparts from the Northern and Upper East Regions.
