Police in the Northern Region have picked up 13 suspects including a woman for attacking police officers and causing damage to a police vehicle, authorities said.
According to officials, the 13 suspects were arrested at Libga, a community near Savelugu in the Northern region when they attempted to arrest a suspect, Iddrisu Ziblim aged 60, who is on the police wanted list for a criminal offense.
The suspects include Alhassan Iddi, 30, Mohammed Alhassan,30, Afarum Dramani,67, Abdulai Shaibu, 20, Shaibu Abdulai,30, Alhassan Sumani,32, Shaibu Alhassan, 35, Adam Abubakari,18, Mohamadu Boting Naa,72 , Hawa Alhassan,30, Iddi Peter,30 and Fuseini Mohammed,30.
In a statement, the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yussif Tanko, said: “On 28 August, 2019, the police went to Libga near Savelegu with a letter to invite a suspect who is wanted in a case of causing harm. The community came out to attack the officers and caused damage to the police vehicle in an attempt to prevent the arrest.”
He added: “A reinforcement team from the regional headquarters was sent to the community spontaneously and 13 suspects including one female were arrest. However, a search on the female suspect led to recovery of a single barrel gun.”
