Norsaac in partnership with Africa Skills Hub and NIV has launched the first ever Social Enterprise marketplace in the northern region. The forum brought together relevant stakeholders for a discussion on the theme; Unlocking the potential for wealth creation in women through social enterprising’’.
The forum comes under the women’s entrepreneurship and livelihoods Initiative (WELI) project implementation across Ghana (Volta and northern regions) and Senegal. The WELI intervention deploys a gender-responsive economic empowerment approach in addressing the increasing vulnerability that rural young women in the two countries continue to face as a result of the covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking in an interview with Zaa news, Executive Director for Norsaac Alhassan Mohammed Awal mentioned that the social enterprise marketplace will create an improved space in the social enterprise sector for young people in the northern part of the country. It also aims to create a favorable financial, administrative and legal environment for enterprises so that they can operate on an equal footing with other types of enterprises in the same sector.
‘’To make a head way in social enterprise there is the need to involve the youth and women who have the potentials and skills as entrepreneurs to improve their potentials in the social enterprise industry’’, Mr Awal noted. The Social Enterprise marketplace Initiative launched in Tamale on August 31, 2021, identified actions to make a real difference and improve the situation on the ground for social enterprises.
The Northern Regional minister Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu who was a keynote Speaker at the forum, said the initiative will go a long way to help reduce the unemployment in the country. According to him, the youth should be given positive opportunities to prepare them for the future.
He said the regional Coordinating Council will support the initiative for it to benefit the people of the region especially women and the youth. The regional minister used the opportunity to appeal to the general public to continue to adhere to the covid-19 safety protocols.
He said the ‘Clean Tamale campaign’ is performing well, and urged the general public to participate fully to make Tamale clean from filth and diseases. He also commended chiefs, stakeholders, state institutions for their efforts to making Tamale the cleanness city in Ghana. The Social Enterprise forum was attended by Chiefs, stakeholders, CSOs, NGOs, and young entrepreneurs in Tamale.
