The Northern Regional Police command has announced that it will arrest and prosecute any rider of a tricycle popularly called motorking for carrying passengers in the street of Tamale on Monday November 9, 2013.
The motorking the police say are not meant for carry passengers but rather goods and warn operators of the tricycles to desist using it as a means of transport of human beings.
The combine task force compressing police, the military and the Ghana National Fire Service and the road safety commission will be stationed at all streets to the metropolis to effect the arrest.
The police are also warning motorists who are driving without license and driving without seat belt will also be arrested and prosecuted at the law courts.
Motorcyclists who ride without crash helmets and pillow riders will not also be spared during the exercise. The police therefore urge opinion leaders and politicians to stay away and allow the security agencies to carry out their mandated duty.
The northern regional police Commander, DCOP Ken Yaboah, announced this at the 2013 4th northern regional road safety awards ceremony for the best performing transport union in Tamale. He said unlike the previous exercise were some short fall of men, this time around there is enough men to carry out the exercise.
