The Public Accounts Committee of Parliament will Friday probe former Attorney General Betty Mould Iddrisu over the payment of 94 million Euros judgment debt to a construction firm, Construction Pioneers (CP).
Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee Albert Kan Dapaah told Joy News former Attorney General under the New Patriotic Party regime, Joe Ghartey, has also been invited for questioning on same issue.
“The report contains a judgement debt, concerning Construction Pioneers and we have started deliberation on this particular judgement debt from Friday.
“Indeed when we sat yesterday, we invited two former Attorney Generals in the persons of honourable Joe Ghartey and honourable Mrs Betty Mould Iddrisu to come and help us to get some better understanding of the transaction leading to the award of 94 million Euros compensations to Construction Pioneers.”
Mr Kan Dapaah said the Chief Executive of the Ghana Highway Authority has also been invited, as well as the Chief Director at the Ministry of Justice and Attorney General Department.
The state attorney who handled the case for the A-G’s Department at the arbitration in UK leading to the negotiation for the award of that judgement debt would also appear before the committee.
He indicated that there are some issues that need clarification, stating for instance that the CP sought international arbitration over the claim in 2004 but “Ghana has been contesting these claims all along. Decision was apparently made by the Attorney General’s Department to discontinue contesting the case at the international arbitration. They then made a negotiated settlement with Construction Pioneers and agreed to pay the sum of 94 million euros. We are eager to find out why the case was discontinued… We want to find out the approval processes that were followed.”
He also said the committee will investigate the Woyome scandal despite the fact that the case is before the law courts.
Meanwhile, lawyer for Betty Mould Iddrisu Nana Ato Dadzie says he is satisfied with the police's response to their letter indicating her willingness to voluntarily cooperate with investigations.]]>
