Tamale, June 22, 2025 — Professor Ransford Gyampo, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority, has publicly responded to a statement issued by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), firmly denying allegations of interference in the OSP’s ongoing investigation into former Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta.

The response, which was posted on Prof. Gyampo’s official Facebook account on Sunday, followed a press release from the OSP that referenced comments made by him during a panel discussion on TV3’s Key Points. The OSP interpreted Prof. Gyampo’s remarks as suggesting that the investigation into Mr. Ofori-Atta was driven by a personal vendetta, and further claimed that he contacted the OSP during a lawful search operation at Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML).

Prof. Gyampo, however, categorically refuted these claims. “I didn’t call your office,” he wrote, addressing Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng directly. “I called YOU, and we never spoke on phone because you said you couldn’t speak and that you were going to call back.”

He explained that the only communication he initiated was a text message to the Special Prosecutor, cautioning him against any action that could result in financial loss to the state. “I only expressed the hope that your intentions are patriotic and not personal. That’s all,” he stated.

In his Facebook post, Prof. Gyampo described the OSP’s characterization of his communication as misleading and unfair. “The bit that talks about me calling your office and insinuating that perhaps I called to ask you to do something untoward is unfair and makes me then doubt your intentions the more,” he wrote.

He further revealed that he intends to circulate screenshots of the WhatsApp exchanges with Mr. Agyebeng to demonstrate that his concern was centered solely on safeguarding the national interest. “I will circulate our WhatsApp texts also to make the point that I only expressed concern about potential financial loss to Ghana,” he added.

Prof. Gyampo’s response has sparked renewed public interest in the high-profile investigation and raised broader questions about how public officials engage with ongoing legal processes. While reaffirming his support for the OSP’s mandate to fight corruption, he maintained that public oversight and questions of motive remain necessary to preserve transparency and public confidence.

As of the time of this publication, the Office of the Special Prosecutor has not issued a follow-up response to Prof. Gyampo’s Facebook post.
