Northern Regional Minister Conveys President’s Sympathy to Families of Murtala Mohammed, Limuna, and Other Crash Victims

Tamale, Aug. 8, 2025 – The Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Ali Adolf John Mburudiba, led a government delegation to visit the families of the late Hon. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed and Hon. Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, conveying condolences on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama and the Government of Ghana.

The visits came in the wake of the tragic Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, which claimed the lives of the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Hon. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Muniru Limuna, Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Squadron Officer Peter Anala, and several others.

On August 7, Hon. Mburudiba assured the family of the late Murtala Mohammed that the autopsy process was underway and that the body would be released for burial after completion. He highlighted the late minister’s fearless dedication to duty and invaluable contributions to national development.

The following day, the Minister visited the family of Hon. Muniru Limuna, where the state’s arrangements for interment were warmly received.

Hon. Mburudiba and his team also visited the family of Squadron Officer Peter Anala, pledging a befitting burial for the fallen serviceman. The families expressed gratitude for the government’s support and pledged full cooperation with state funeral arrangements.

In addition, the Regional Minister met with leaders of major mosques in Tamale, including Central Mosque (Zaamihu), Ambariya Sunni Mosque, Masjidul Bayaan, and Malihaliya Mosque. He delivered a message from the President regarding funeral and burial plans for the victims, seeking the cooperation and prayers of the Muslim community.

The delegation included the Chief Director, members of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), and Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC) administrators.

The Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash has been described as a national tragedy, with the loss of key leaders and servicemen deeply felt across the country.
