YENDI – The newly enskinned Regent of Dagbon, Kampakuya-Naa Yakubu Mahama, has pledged to preserve the enduring legacy of his late father, Ndan Yaa Naa Abukari II, by promoting peace, unity and development throughout Dagbon and beyond.
Speaking in his first interview with Zaa News shortly after his enskinment on Friday, the Regent expressed profound appreciation to the people of Dagbon, Ghanaians and supporters across the world for the overwhelming prayers, solidarity and goodwill extended to the royal family following the passing of the late Yaa Naa.
He described the outpouring of support as a source of strength during a difficult period and assured the people that he would dedicate himself to serving Dagbon with humility, wisdom and a commitment to the welfare of all.
Kampakuya-Naa Yakubu Mahama called on all Dagombas to protect the peace and stability that have been achieved in the kingdom over the years. He urged chiefs, opinion leaders, the youth and residents to remain united, avoid actions that could undermine harmony, and work collectively towards the continued progress and prosperity of Dagbon.
The Regent further reaffirmed his determination to continue the vision and achievements of his late father, whose reign was widely recognised for championing peace, reconciliation and development within the traditional area.
He noted that sustaining those gains would require the cooperation and collective support of every son and daughter of Dagbon.
Extending his appeal beyond the kingdom, Kampakuya-Naa Yakubu Mahama called for peace, national cohesion and mutual respect among all Ghanaians, stressing that unity remains the foundation for sustainable development and national progress.
The enskinment ceremony attracted thousands of people from across Ghana and beyond, transforming Yendi into a centre of traditional pageantry and national significance. The event brought together eminent chiefs and queen mothers, political leaders from across the political divide, members of the diplomatic corps, religious leaders, government officials, traditional council representatives and dignitaries from various ethnic communities, all of whom witnessed the historic installation of the Regent.
The enskinment of Kampakuya-Naa Yakubu Mahama marks a significant milestone in the traditional leadership of Dagbon, as he assumes the responsibility of guiding the affairs of the kingdom during the period of regency while reinforcing the values of peace, unity and continuity that have long defined the Dagbon Kingdom
